Wouldn’t it be awesome if your map-apps showed the user’s exact location without taking any input from him? Of course it is possible using  the famous IP address trick… but it is too approximate, and sometimes everything but correct! You might be sitting on one end of the city and the IP address trace would tell you’re on the other end! But now getting the users exact location is possible using the Geo location API.

Polylines in Google Maps [Part 2] | In usability we trust

When dealing with dynamic data you may have to encode the polylines on the fly. In this example I will use PHP to perform the encoding. I have rewritten a php script made by Jim Hribar and built his functions into a class for more convenient use. I’ve also made some small changes to the code. The code itself is essentially a rip-off from Mark MacClure’s Javascript class.

Clickable Markers With Google Static Maps

Static map is one big image. Markers are embedded inside the image. You can not use traditional <a href=“#”> tags around separate markers. Binding onclick event to separate marker images wont work either. There are no separate markers. Just one large image.

Adapting a Polyline Encoder to PHP « progressive thinking

A geographical polyline can be used to show a route or an area on a map. A polyline is made of several geographical points. Each point is composed of latitude and longitude. If you load a big bunch of points from your server, this can take a while. The better solution is to encode them to binary format.
